Are Deep Squats a Safe and Viable Exercise?
نویسنده
چکیده
T he squat is widely used as a staple exercise in resistance training programs. It is used by athletic and recreational populations alike to enhance both strength and hypertrophy of the lower-body musculature and improve functional performance (17). However, considerable controversy exists as to optimal squat depth, particularly as to whether deep squatting increases the risk of injury to the knee joint.

The health and performance benefits of the squat, deadlift and bench press
The squat is a well‒known exercise to strengthen the muscles of the lower limb. Conditioning specialists universally agree the squat is among the top three prescribed exercises for sports training, rehabilitation and prehabilitation.1 Previously, there has been much debate about the safety of deep (full range) squats. Strength and conditioning coaches often define a deep squat by amount knee ra...

It has been suggested that deep squats could cause an increased injury risk of the lumbar spine and the knee joints. Avoiding deep flexion has been recommended to minimize the magnitude of knee-joint forces. Unfortunately this suggestion has not taken the influence of the wrapping effect, functional adaptations and soft tissue contact between the back of thigh and calf into account. The aim of ...

متن کاملHypergravity resistance exercise: the use of artificial gravity as potential countermeasure to microgravity.
The aims of this study were to 1) determine if hypergravity (HG) squats can produce foot forces similar to those measured during 10-repetition maximum (10RM) squats using weights under normal 1-G(z) condition, and 2) compare the kinematics (duration and goniometry) and EMG activities of selected joints and muscles between 10RM and HG squats of similar total foot forces. Eight men and six women ...

Introduction and purpose: Physical fitness is important for health promotion, functional independence and falling prevention in elderly. Due to the unwillingness or inability of the elderly to do conventional exercises, designing the simple, safe and tolerable exercises for this population is essential. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of whole body vibration therapy exercise...
